Born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province on January 9, 1896, Mao Yisheng was regarded as the founder of modern bridge engineering in China. It was Mao who designed and directed the construction of the Qiantang River Bridge as well as the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge, both of which are known as famous modern bridges in China. Apart from the bridges, Mao Yisheng also wrote some books on bridge engineering, which are undoubtedly precious treasures for young bridge scientists.
